Short pattern

In 2009 Valland was asked to produce a special replacement valve with a mandatory face-to-face dimension imposed by the existing pipeline and flanges. The result was an out-of-standard carbon steel ball valve with Inconel 625 overlay (including flanges): a 34" 900# valve with Desflex ends, hydraulic actuator and SPE-DPE metal-to-metal seat configuration, engineered within a face-to-face of just 1,990 mm — only 88 mm longer than a standard 30" 900# valve.

A complete Finite Element Analysis was supplied to verify the short pattern design under external loads, and a five-year warranty was required by the customer. Installed immediately downstream of a pig launcher and operated about four times per week, the valve is still perfectly functional today without ever having received maintenance.
