FAQ

Valland designs and manufactures engineered ball valves (trunnion mounted, floating, top entry, top entry rising stem), through conduit gate valves (slab, parallel slab, single and double expanding), check valves (swing and dual plate), cryogenic ball valves and valves for high-pressure gaseous hydrogen service. All valves are custom-engineered per project; Valland does not produce for stock.

All products are certified to API 6A, API 6D and API 6DSS — monograms held since 2008. The quality management system is certified ISO 9001:2015 and the environmental management system ISO 14001:2015. Designs have achieved SIL 2/3 certification per IEC 61508, fire safe qualification per ISO 10497, API 6FA and API 607, fugitive emission qualification per ISO 15848-1/2, and comply with PED 2014/68/EU; TSG certificates cover the Chinese market.

In a floating ball valve the ball is supported by the seats and pushed by line pressure against the downstream seat — simple and compact, ideal for small bores and low-to-medium pressure. In a trunnion mounted ball valve the ball is anchored on trunnions and the seats move against the ball, which keeps operating torque manageable at high pressure classes and large sizes.

The single-piece body opens from the top, so internals can be inspected and maintained without removing the valve from the line — essential where the valve is welded into the pipeline. Valland also supplies special tools and training for in-line disassembly and reassembly of top entry valves.

A DBB valve seals against pressure from both ends and allows the body cavity to be vented or drained: a single valve provides two seat barriers plus a bleed. DIB (double isolation and bleed) additionally requires each of the two seats to seal independently in the relevant direction. Valland ball valves can be engineered for DIB-1 and DIB-2, and double expanding gate valves for DIB-1.

Carbon and low-temperature carbon steels, stainless steels, duplex and super duplex, 6Mo, nickel alloys (Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy, Monel) and titanium, in cast or forged execution, with NACE MR0175 compliance on request. Material selection is engineered per project by Valland’s own material experts.

Yes. The cryogenic range (models A11C, A21C, A31C) covers an operating envelope from -200 °C to +200 °C, and every valve can be cryogenic tested in-house at -196 °C per BS 6364 before delivery.

Beside standard hydrostatic and high-pressure gas testing: cryogenic, high temperature (up to 550 °C tested on delivered projects), fire safe, bending, fugitive emission with helium, endurance, PR2/type approval and localized stem-area hyperbaric testing. Full-valve hyperbaric testing is managed through qualified external facilities.

Standard project deliveries typically run from about 20 to 32 working weeks depending on size, materials and testing scope. For shutdowns and urgent needs Valland operates a fast-track service, with documented references such as an NPS 30 valve delivered in 9 weeks and subsea manual/ROV valves in 10 working weeks.

Valland3D is Valland’s in-house additive manufacturing division — one of the very few cases of a valve manufacturer with integrated metal and polymer 3D printing. It specializes in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) for critical valve components and polymer FDM printing, and works to the AM specifications of the energy industry: DNVGL-ST-B203, API 20S and API 20T.

Metal parts in stainless steel, duplex and super duplex alloys, Inconel alloys and other materials; polymer parts by FDM/FFF in pure and composite materials, high-performance technopolymers (hot-chamber FDM) and photopolymer resins.

Selected valve components — gaskets and subcomponents — are engineered as printable files and stored digitally. Once the valve is in service, spares can be printed on demand instead of being stocked physically: lead times drop to a few days or even hours, and manufacturing can be distributed close to the point of use.

Yes. Beyond components for Valland valves, the division serves applications in the broader energy and design world. Enquiries can be sent to info@valland.it.

Yes — a dedicated range of ball valves (models H11 and H21) for high-pressure gaseous hydrogen, with material selection engineered against hydrogen embrittlement. See the Hydrogen Valves section for details.

Valland S.p.A. is a privately owned Italian company founded in 2006, based in Piantedo (SO), at the entrance of Valtellina, about 70 km north of Milan. All engineering, assembly and testing take place there.
